On the way to Amorgos

A lot of people were waiting to board our

ferry in Pireus. We were on our way to Amorgos.

After approximately 2.5 hours we saw the two rocks that stand in the middle of the sea that signalled our imimnent arrival to Paros.

Soon, we could see  coastline.

And then we arrived at the port - I remember all of this well

the windmill

And then, we were off.

Open sea for a while

and then the first sighting of Portara, the Great Door of the Temple of Apollo that stands on the islet of Portara and is connected to the Chora by a causeway - to read more about this you can go here

I love those barren peaks you find on Greek islands

Approaching the harbour

Most of the people from our boat got off here.

a good view of Portara from here

and one more. I just love it so much.

And we were off again.

Soon after, we arrived at Koufonisi

Sparsely inhabited

and very small

lovely windmill

A tour boat

What really struck me about this place was the clarity and colour of the water - I would love to swim in this, so it has gone on our list of places to visit.

  1. The houses, churches, mill, multi-storeyed buildings and port facilities all sit facing the water and are all perfectly white. It is like a dream made real!

    1. Yeah, Greek islands are very beautiful. The houses are painted white with limewash because it reflects sunshine, thus keeping houses cooler, and because it acts as a disinfectant. Glad you liked it Hels.
