We had a two day break in York last week because we wanted to see the Gordon Baldwin exhibition (post to follow) and stayed at the Grange Hotel which was very comfortable indeed.
It is a gorgeous old building, and each room has its own individual character. This is the upstairs sitting room.
On our way to the city centre from the hotel we walked past this beautiful round building which is near the city wall,
as is this.
A bit further on, we came upon High Petergate
which led into the Shambles
with York Minster on our left.
We spent quite a bit of time wandering around the Shambles
looking around the shops
as well as the architecture
marvelling at the crowds.
York has some very beautiful old buildings
Betty's Tea Rooms
I did not get the chance to walk on the wall this time, but some of our party did
This is the TKMaxx building and we did go inside to have a look
This is where Guy Fawkes was born
lots of timber frame buildings
as well as stone
isn't this grand? The Assembly Rooms, now Ask. We did not have a meal here however, but at
Cafe No. 8 Bistro. The food was so exceptionallly delicious that we had to go back the next day for lunch
We spent our last minutes in York wandering around this courtyard
King's Manor, the University of York, Archaeology Department
which to me exemplifies the richness and variety
of York's architecture.
