The last grand tour

The Museum of Cycladic Art

and its grand entrance

always a pleasure to wander around this old manor house. The current exhibition in this part of the museum did not interest us very much, so we move on to the modern building

through this corridor which connects the two buildings

to look at the Last Grand Tour, the second exhibition currently being shown here.

Barbara Hepworth, Torso III (Galatea)

Brice Marden, Marble  #13  (oil and graphite on marble)

Brice Marden, Marble  #7

Brice Marden, Marble  #11

Ben Nicholson, Aegean

Jannis Kounellis, Untitled (drawing on wall, plaster, flowers)

Linda Benglis, Elvis (stainless steel and copper)

And all this time, Leonard Cohen is singing:

Like a bird on a wire,
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
Like a worm on a hook,
Like a knight from some old fashioned book,
I have saved all of my ribbons for thee,
If I, if I have been unkind,
I hope that you can just let it go by.
If I, if I have been untrue,
I hope you know it was never to you.

as this is one of the songs he wrote while staying in Hydra.

This is the poster for Martin Kippenberger's (entirely impossible) world-wide underground system, Metro-Net (Syros)

with models of the subway entrances, in this case Leipzig

and this model is the subway entrance to New York City

and the first entrance, in Syros

Helmut Middendorf, Dafni

Helmut Middendorf, Omonia

And since we are in the modern building, we leave by its entrance.

  1. I'm planning a trip on the world-wide underground system, to comply with the International Situationists - Soyez realistes, demandez l'impossible! I don't know if the global metro though allows you to carry the mandatory projectiles - the cobble stones..
