Variations by Michalis Katzourakis, at the Benaki Museum, Pireos.

 

 

 

 



 

The exhibition is divided into thematic units, each unit being presented with its variations, revealing the process of the artist's work.

 

Katzourakis walks around the city, photographs what interests him ( stacked fish crates, firewood, boxes neatly arranged in columns, wooden pallets, books, containers, scaffolding, distressed building facades, backyards) and then uses the photographs as the basis for his painting and sculpture.

What struck me the most about Katzourakis was the variety of materials he experiments with and how refreshing the results are.
