In the Cotswolds

It was market day in Moreton-in-Marsh when we visited last week, and that gave an extra boost to our visit.

The main road runs through

this attractive village

built with the yellow limestone that gives the houses their characteristic golden colour.

The sun was shining and everything sparkled.

The village has some good restaurants, lots of tea shops for afternoon tea, and a few hotels.

We enjoyed browsing in some of the shops, and this one in particular

which is full of nice things for the home.

I particularly liked these hens

and marvelled over this buffalo skull

We spent a good hour here

and then moved on to Stow-in-the-Wold, a small market town in Gloucestershire

The main square with the green in the middle is long and fairly large

dominated by the village hall at one end.

This hotel is situated on the side of the square

with its beautifully manicured lawn.

Light and shadow on the golden buildings

which surround the square

This arch leads to

one of the side streets

and on to this narrow paved area

which is full of shops including this gallery

I like the shape of the end building

so here's another photograph of it

The light had changed by the time we got back to the main square, and the buildings were glowing

and it was time to head home.
