Kolonaki snapshots and some pots too

All private galleries close for the month of August and for the first two weeks in September so this journey into Kolonaki was an attempt to catch up on what was being exhibited before the big shut down. We started with the Gagosian's new premises, this wonderful neo-classical building - posts to follow.

Opposite the Gagosian building a small park is situated, at the foot of Lycabettus Hill.

It's a welcome little green oasis in a residential area

and then we came across this intriguing building with its Grecian columns and modern additions

Right in the middle of Kolonaki now, but a part that I had not come across before.

We reached Haritos Street. The gallery I wanted to have a look at was closed 

but Indigo was open. Indigo sell clothes and ceramics - an odd combination but it works. I have purchased quite a few pieces from here in the past, pieces for every day use.

In all, we visited six private galleries that day. It sounds a lot, I know, but they are small and looking around them does not take long.

 

Mon Coin Studio

Mon Coin, the studio, Monastiraki, Athens.

This was my second visit to the studio. There is a vast number of exhibits. During both visits I found very little that personally interested me - this is not a criticism, some of the pieces are interesting,  just not the kind of ceramics I like and appreciate.

I did however, like these pebbles by Lena Englezou and thought they would look good on our front terrace. I asked the not so pleasant assistant how much they cost and she did not know. Two phone calls later she none the wiser. I gave up.

Mon Coin - the shop

Mon Coin, the shop, in Koukaki.

This was my first visit to the shop. It sells ceramics, mainly functional pieces. From what I gathered from the very pleasant assistant, they represent workshops from all over Greece, but mainly from the islands. I asked about various pieces but she did not know the makers or the place of origin (!).

She thought this is from Crete.

Lovely piece of raku, I was tempted, but it's absolutely huge, I would not know where to put it.

This is from the island of Sifnos. We own a few bowls that we use every day

I like the shape of the jug

This type of ceramic is very Greek

as is this.
