Cardiff

We celebrated our birthdays by spending 3 days in Cardiff last week.

The hotel we stayed in was conveniently located - Bute Park across the road,

the river Taff on the right

and the castle across the road to the left

visible from our hotel window.

The Angel hotel, where we stayed last time we visited the city, was on our way to the city centre.

Cardiff has some grand old buildings

this is the Museum for Cardiff in the city centre

and the Royal Hotel, also in the centre.

We saw some interesting sculpture as we wandered around

including one of Aneurin Bevan

Mother and Child by Robert Thomas.

Most of the city centre is pedestrianised

full of the usual High Street shops

which makes it a bit desolate at night

We visited the indoor market

which is extensive, full of all kinds of produce

the vintage market which was on Friday, was fun too.

These big rounded pots full of plants are to be found throughout the city.

What makes Cardiff really special though are the Victorian arcades

which are full of independent, quirky shops

great fun for browsing.

We saw some interesting street art.

The city is full of nightclubs

and bars

some, with a revolutionary theme.
