Mask and the Gaze

Mask and the Gaze,

at the Institute of Contemporary Art.

This is an exhibition of the students of the Plaster-Bronze Casting Lab of the Athens School of Fine Arts. The themes the students had to work around are:  the interconnection between the mask and the face; the dialogue between a plaster copy and the image one observes in the mirror; the gaze,  the importance of the eyes on the plaster form, and the value of the gaze in sculpture. Finally, to what extent can a plaster copy, the product of a technical process, be considered as a work of art, or how can it be established as one.

Initially the students covered their face with wax in order to make a mould, the casting was finalised in aluminium and then they focused on the gaze, using various materials.
