Blenheim Palace re-visited - again!

Another sunny day after a week's rain and we decided to go back to Blenheim Palace for another visit. A different walk this time, circling Capability Brown's lake.

The bridge, the Column of Liberty in the distance

autumn colours

Two copses that I am particularly fond of, on our left

and a third one - you have to look closely to realise that it's more than one tree

the path circles the lake

this is one of my favourite bits of this walk

water birds seem to like it too

it's uphill now until one gets to the bridge

First glimpse of the bridge

zooming in

We reached the top of the hill

and turned right

More views of the lake and bridge

We eventually reached the palace gates: the marquis is part of the Christmas preparations - there is going to be a Christmas fair next week

The water garden where we had lunch

more Christmas preparations.

We wanted to walk some more so after lunch we walked to the back of the palace

past the Italian garden, which is private

and went into the Secret Garden to have a look at all the small ponds there

this acer is brilliant

the dominant features here are ponds and acers

out of the Secret Garden and on to the long avenue that leads to the end of the grounds

up to this water feature and then back to the palace and to the car.
