Dusk

The sunset in Edem. We have started using this bar by the sea - it's next to the restaurant we usually go to, and it's wonderful.

The trees silhouetted against the sunset, with the sea and Salamina in the background. Bliss.

We have sat here in the past during the day, but this is the first year we've come for the sunset. Lots of people here yesterday as it was Saturday, but we were still able to social distance.

Vanessa Anastasopoulou at Martinos

Vanessa Anastasopoulou at Martinos.

A ceramicist who I have discovered through the antique shop Martinos, where they occasionally display ceramics.

looking in.

Anastasopoulou likes to disrupt the form of her vessels. So, in some of the ones above, there are bits sticking out, and bits stuck inside.

In this one, that I own, a miniature bowl has been placed in the middle of this plate.

Our beach

Summer has come to an end, and our beach is almost empty.

It's still operational, but the first three rows of umbrellas and beds have been removed and it feels really odd. Not many people here as you can see, but we continue to come most days, weather permitting, as we've had a few rainy days and one mighty thunderstorm that lasted 3 hours.

A few people persist in coming, including the winter swimmers, who brave the cold and continue swimming  all year round.

The dismantling of the beach usually occurs at the end of September, but it's been a particularly mild October so the closing of the beach has been pushed forward for at least 2 weeks - when they will close it completely, we don't know.

It's the best of times: very few people, the sea is warm, and it's just lovely.

Light - Stephen Antonakos

Stephen Antonakos - Light, Stephen Antonakos and the Russian Avant- Garde.

At MOMus, Athens.

There are great roads that can be explored and bear fruit from the study of the relationship between the works of Russian pioneers and the specific and abstract geometry that I use in a variety of media, in my works',  wrote Antonakos in 2012.

In the early 1960s neon became Antonakos' primary medium. His art is based on light, scale, proportions, and the relations between geometric forms and their overall relation to their site. It has nothing to do with neon's previous uses, only with its new capabilities as purely abstract linear and spatial colour.

Beyond the obvious affinities with the constructivist geometry, light is another very essential component both in the work of Antonakos and in that of may artists of the Russian avant-garde. Mikhail Laionov, Ivan Kilum, Kazimir Malevich, Ivan Kudriashov and many others gave their works titles inspired by light, like Rayionism, Luminism, Electro-organism and developed a number of theories about the movement of rays and the characteristics of glow and glare stressing out that light is such an important element of painting.

Alex Mylona

Alex Mylona at MOMus, Athens.

'The white marble from the Dionyssos quarries, in slices of two, three or five centimetres, is the material which I use and which expresses me today. Simple, but full of light and life, it stands out autonomous. Complicated forms do not fit here: they would hide its beauty. Clear, plain lines such as square, circle, semi-circle, have always been symbol shapes. The synthesis of those shapes, but also the relationship between them, are the basic elements of my work, the key, so to speak, to a certain language'. (Alex Mylona, 1984)
