Glyfada by the sea

I have been posting a lot about our walks in Athens, but most days we just walk by the sea.
One of our favourite walks is in Glyfada, by the sea. A 15-minute tram ride and we arrive here, the first of the five or six (not sure of the number, I get confused) beaches in Glyfada.

And we start walking

On our right, the sea

on our left, the (pink) cycle path, then a fairly quiet road that services this area, and then houses, fancy houses of the rich

the first beach ends

and reach the first marina

A bar and restaurant

the bar/cafe section is quite busy

new planting - this area is still being developed, they are 3/4 through, I would say

One of my favourite houses

a lot of the houses you can't see though, because of the high fences, the hedges and trees that are there to ensure privacy for those inside

We've reached the second beach

Another favourite - I used to make up all sorts of stories about the towers when I was a kid

can't decide about this one

the children's playground

palm trees line our path

another beach - they were deserted that day because it was quite cold, but in the summer they are packed with people

One can see this house,

but many are hidden behind the hedges

We turn right here, past the turtle rescue center

part of it is old railway carriages

at the end of the promontory we can see the suburb Voula across the sea

but also, the rest of Glyfada

including the cafe/bar which is usually our final destination

we turn back but at the other side of the promontory where boats are moored

We re-join the original path - another lovely house

The old Town Hall which is a cultural centre now

past the tennis court which is part of the sports centre

and we've reached Caretta, the cafe/bar we could see from across the water

we choose to take a table on the sand, by the sea

and spend the next hour drinking tea and looking out to the sea.
