The Auditorium

The Auditorium by Renzo Piano is in the Flaminio district and is in fact three auditoriums built in one complex.

Three large bulbous grey shapes all united by a large amphitheatre, used for outdoor performances given in the piazza below.

Each concert hall is conceived and designed for a different kind of musical performance - it is all so very clever

Inside all three foyers join up and it was a good thing too as it was pouring the day we went

The remains of a Republican-era villa were incorporated between two of the concert halls

The musical instrument museum was great fun

One of the high points of the visit was when we came upon a singing lesson and I very quietly went in, sat down and listened  for a while. There was one student, two teachers, one observer, the person playing the piano, and some spectators like me. The opera was the Marriage of Figaro and it was heavenly....

We left via the Via Pietro de Coubertin - the thunder and lightning were intensifying and we did not dare explore the Parco della Musica.
