We had to take the bus from the Hora to get to the beach - I took this photograph while the bus was moving because I was intrigued by the mist sitting on the bay.
We then took a boat for a five minute ride to get to Agios Nikolaos.
This bay is very beautiful and it was lovely when we arrived at around 11:00 as there was hardly anyone there.
I loved swimming around these rocks. The bay is very small and at first I was worried I would not be able to do the long swims I favour, but the problem was solved by swimming on to the end of the next bay which is much longer and which one can only reach by sea. It was delightful.
I was very pleased I managed to get the birds in the picture
the beach got quite busy later on
We were sorry to leave and what we did not know was that this was going to be our last swim in Folegandros. There is no shade on the beach but we took with us an umbrella that the hotel kindly lent us. The next day however, there were raging winds and the umbrella would have collapsed in seconds. I am not keen on sitting in the sun - I get enough sun exposure when swimming, so unfortunately, we decided to leave Folegandros and move on to Santorini. Folegandros is a gorgeous island, but there is not that much to do, so, unless we went swimming we would have found it difficult to find things to do as sitting in bars and cafes is not our thing.
You forgot to mention the nude sunbathers...
ReplyDeleteTrue - when we first arrived, for a moment I thought it might have been a nudist beach.
DeleteFortunately, many people don't know Folegandros yet, and I hope it will be so for a long time!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your message and I totally agree with you. It is a beautiful island, and it is especially beautiful because it has not been spoiled by tourism - may it remain so for a very long time!
