Margarita Ecclesiarchou - new work

Margarita Ecclesiarchou.

During our recent visit to the Benaki Museum on Pireos, I saw these five bowls in the shop of the museum. This work is very different to the work we saw in Aegina last summer, which you can see here.

Looking closer

  1. In some ways it looks like a complete change, but I suppose those internal shapes relate to the voids in the last work you showed. I am afraid that I do not warm to these, but perhaps they will be more commercial. Interesting.

    1. I admire the skill and vision of the previous work, but it did not move me. On the other hand, I have this thing for bowls...

  2. I know what you mean about bowls, but these are a little too sweet for me. Her previous work was sculptural, less friendly. Somehow these bowls are more generally appealing.
I must admit that I too am drawn to bowls, and have been tempted by several over the years.

    1. There's something about bowls: they're very tactile to begin with, it's very satisfying to wrap your hands around one. Then there's the notion of containment, of offering... and they are a very pleasing shape. All in all, an excellent design.
