Happy New Year

Happy 2016 to all my family, friends and readers of this blog. May the new year bring much-needed peace and good fortune. May those who are victims of poverty, displacement, war or domestic violence find comfort and peace.

A street seller in Athens selling kremydes - onions. Regarded by the ancient Greeks as the symbol of rejuvenation and health, the onion has become a symbol for the New Year due to its many layers and its ability to sprout new life. Most families will have an onion by their front door or inside the house. You can see more about how Greeks celebrate the New Year here .
